Wildfires and Children’s Health

California wildfires, which have grown in both frequency and severity, have created environmental hazards and widespread devastation. Children, especially those with chronic health issues, are particularly sensitive to wildfire smoke because their lungs are still developing. Visit UCSF's Western States Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit (WSPEHSU) for resources on reducing children’s exposure to wildfire smoke and managing other hazards associated with wildfires. Some of these resources are available in both English and Spanish.
Subscribe to WSPEHSU’s e-newsletter to receive the latest information on children and environmental health.
The UC Center for Climate, Health and Equity's Wildfires & Health Education Hub offers additional materials, some of which are also available in Spanish and Chinese.
